Wey valley produce is the retail offering from the Wey Valley Farmers Co-operative, set up to allow small scale local farmer to sell their produce directly to the local consumers, whilst utilising a cooperative structure and nature to ensure a wider market share and keep the costs bourne on the producer as low as possible.
All of the produce that is available has been produced within 15 miles of Guildford, Surrey. And meets our requirements regarding farming practice, which include:
- A diet consisting predominatly of grass and grass-based forage, with concentrate and compound feeds only being used when required due to lack of quality forage, and making up less than 10% of the daily intake of the livestock.
- The use of antibiotics, anti-inflammatories and anthelmintics is judically limited, where possible. With the aim to reduce use to cases that require treatment rather than to promote fast weight gains.
- The youngstock are kept with their mother for a minimum of 36 weeks before weaning, where possible longer times before weaning are prefered. Except for animals requiring bottle feeding.
